# MelodEar vs VisualForte

The clearest difference is update cadence: VisualForte at weekly against MelodEar's every 2 months. VisualForte also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). MelodEar's advantage is ratings volume (68 vs 2) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MelodEar sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per year and VisualForte sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

VisualForte holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MelodEar has 68 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

MelodEar ships an update every 2 months, VisualForte weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
