# TTS vs TTSReader Text to Speech

The clearest difference is rating: TTS at 4.7 against TTSReader Text to Speech's 3.4. TTS also leads on ratings volume (1K vs 5) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). TTSReader Text to Speech's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TTS sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and TTSReader Text to Speech sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $10.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

TTS holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TTS has 1K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two.

TTS ships an update every 2 months, TTSReader Text to Speech monthly. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
