# Hoby Chat vs TanStar

The clearest difference is rating: Hoby Chat at 3.9 against TanStar's 3.0. Hoby Chat also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (35 vs 2). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hoby Chat sells 6 one-off in-app purchases and TanStar sells 15 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Hoby Chat holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hoby Chat has 35 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
