# MeteorFinder vs Detector Maps

The clearest difference is rating: Detector Maps at 4.7 against MeteorFinder's 3.9. Detector Maps also leads on update cadence (every 6 days vs every 6 weeks) and ratings volume (261 vs 15). MeteorFinder's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MeteorFinder sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Detector Maps sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Detector Maps holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Detector Maps has 261 ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 93% of MeteorFinder's written reviews are positive against 73% of Detector Maps's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MeteorFinder ships an update every 6 weeks, Detector Maps every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
