# Chess Prep Pro Openings vs Chess DNA

The clearest difference is ads: Chess DNA at none against Chess Prep Pro Openings's shown. Chess DNA also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 75%) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Chess Prep Pro Openings's advantage is device support (3 vs 1) and ratings volume (22 vs 6). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess Prep Pro Openings sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Chess DNA sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Chess Prep Pro Openings holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 22 and 6 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 75% of Chess Prep Pro Openings's written reviews are positive against 100% of Chess DNA's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chess Prep Pro Openings ships an update fortnightly, Chess DNA every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
