# Downpour vs Wizards Codex

The clearest difference is rating: Downpour at 4.8 against Wizards Codex's 4.0. Downpour also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (21 vs 1). Wizards Codex's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 86%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Downpour sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $4.99 per month and Wizards Codex sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Downpour holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Downpour has 21 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Downpour's written reviews are positive against 100% of Wizards Codex's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Downpour ships an update monthly, Wizards Codex every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
