# Sounds True vs Ephemeral Journal

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Ephemeral Journal at 100% against Sounds True's 26%. Ephemeral Journal also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). Sounds True's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (1.2K vs 3). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Sounds True sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month and Ephemeral Journal sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ephemeral Journal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sounds True has 1.2K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 26% of Sounds True's written reviews are positive against 100% of Ephemeral Journal's.

Sounds True ships an update every 2 months, Ephemeral Journal fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
