# NextVPN vs Shield VPN

NextVPN and Shield VPN both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 67% of NextVPN's written reviews are positive against 40% of Shield VPN's. NextVPN also leads on ratings volume (45K vs 726) and chart position (#21 vs #86). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. NextVPN sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.49 per 7 days and Shield VPN sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for NextVPN against 4.6 for Shield VPN. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: NextVPN has 45K ratings behind it against 726, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 67% of NextVPN's written reviews are positive against 40% of Shield VPN's.

NextVPN ships an update every 5 days, Shield VPN every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
