# Type vs Sootly

The clearest difference is rating: Sootly at 4.8 against Type's 3.0. Sootly also leads on ratings volume (23 vs 2) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 weeks). Type's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 18.6). On price, review sentiment, ads and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Sootly sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Type asks for nothing beyond the download.

Sootly holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sootly has 23 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Type ships an update every 5 weeks, Sootly every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
