# Letter Formation vs Write Letters

The clearest difference is rating: Letter Formation at 5.0 against Write Letters's 4.3. Letter Formation also leads on update cadence (every 9 days vs every 9 months) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Write Letters's advantage is ratings volume (31 vs 1) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Letter Formation sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Write Letters sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Letter Formation holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Write Letters has 31 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Letter Formation ships an update every 9 days, Write Letters every 9 months. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
