# Private VPN Proxy vs Online Shield

The clearest difference is monetization model: Private VPN Proxy at free with in-app purchases against Online Shield's subscription. Private VPN Proxy also leads on review sentiment (78% vs 55%) and chart position (#121 vs unranked). Online Shield's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (8K vs 1.1K). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Private VPN Proxy sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Online Shield sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Online Shield holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Online Shield has 8K ratings behind it against 1.1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 78% of Private VPN Proxy's written reviews are positive against 55% of Online Shield's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Private VPN Proxy ships an update monthly, Online Shield fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
