Two hearing tests you can take at home, with the headphones you already own. TONES, ONE EAR AT A TIME Hold the button while you hear the tone, let go when it fades. The tone walks down until it disappears and back up until it comes back, four pitches in each ear, with a quiet hiss in the other ear so it cannot answer for the one being tested. About two minutes. WORDS IN NOISE Three spoken numbers against a background hiss, sixteen rounds. This is the test that measures what people actually complain about: hearing a voice but not catching the words. It is also the one measurement here that does not depend on how loud your headphones are, because the voice and the noise go through them together — which makes it the number worth watching over time. WHAT YOU GET • What the tones found, in words rather than in decibels • Each ear on its own, and whether one is behind the other • Which sounds are quiet for you, and why that makes speech unclear rather than quiet • What it means in three everyday places: one to one, the television, a busy room • A PDF you can keep or hand to a doctor • Every check kept, so you can see whether anything is moving HEAR BOOST: PUT THE WORDS BACK • What is around you, louder, straight into your headphones • Live text: every word in large type as it is said • Read aloud: the same words in a clean voice, into your headphones • Translation while someone is talking • Record a conversation and read it afterwards • A sound level meter, for when the room is the problem rather than your ears YOUR RESULTS STAY ON YOUR PHONE No account, nothing uploaded. The only copy that leaves is the PDF you choose to send. WHAT THIS IS NOT A screening, not a diagnosis. We are not a medical app. Your headphones, your room and your attention all move the result. It tells you whether something is worth looking into, and gives you a page to take with you. For a real answer, see a doctor. Headphones are needed. Each ear is tested on its own, and a phone speaker cannot do that.
