# MapGenie vs ArcMate

The clearest difference is monetization model: MapGenie at free with in-app purchases against ArcMate's subscription. MapGenie also leads on ratings volume (2.6K vs 1) and device support (3 vs 1). ArcMate's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 6 days vs every 26 months). On price and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and ArcMate sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ArcMate holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 2.6K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

MapGenie ships an update every 26 months, ArcMate every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
