# Hex Media vs Firefly

The clearest difference is ads: Hex Media at none against Firefly's shown. Hex Media also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases). Firefly's advantage is ratings volume (129 vs 5) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 weeks). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Hex Media holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Firefly has 129 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Hex Media ships an update every 6 weeks, Firefly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
