# Writer Gadget vs Campfire

The clearest difference is rating: Campfire at 4.3 against Writer Gadget's 3.8. Campfire also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months). Writer Gadget's advantage is review sentiment (70% vs 44%) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.0). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Campfire holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Campfire has 197 ratings behind it against 31, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of Writer Gadget's written reviews are positive against 44% of Campfire's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Writer Gadget ships an update every 3 months, Campfire fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
