# CDL Permit Test Practice vs CDL Prep

The clearest difference is update cadence: CDL Prep at every 2 months against CDL Permit Test Practice's every 4 months. CDL Prep also leads on ratings volume (153 vs 25). CDL Permit Test Practice's advantage is device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 16.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CDL Permit Test Practice sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and CDL Prep sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for CDL Permit Test Practice against 4.6 for CDL Prep. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CDL Prep has 153 ratings behind it against 25, so its average is the more settled of the two.

CDL Permit Test Practice ships an update every 4 months, CDL Prep every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 14, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
