# Outside vs ABI Journal

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: ABI Journal at none against Outside's 1. ABI Journal also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6). Outside's advantage is ratings volume (1.9K vs 1) and chart position (#97 vs unranked). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Outside sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $89.99 per year. ABI Journal asks for nothing beyond the download.

ABI Journal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Outside has 1.9K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Outside ships an update every 3 weeks, ABI Journal every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
