# EV Builder's Guide vs ShopNotes Magazine

The clearest difference is monetization model: EV Builder's Guide at free with in-app purchases against ShopNotes Magazine's subscription. ShopNotes Magazine's advantage is update cadence (every 4 months vs every 9 months) and ratings volume (23 vs 5). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. EV Builder's Guide sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $11.99 per year and ShopNotes Magazine sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for EV Builder's Guide against 4.3 for ShopNotes Magazine. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 5 and 23 respectively.

EV Builder's Guide ships an update every 9 months, ShopNotes Magazine every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
