# SO Play vs Express TV

The clearest difference is rating: Express TV at 3.0 against SO Play's 2.3. SO Play's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 48 months) and review sentiment (14% vs 0%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Express TV holds the better App Store score, 3.0 against 2.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SO Play has 20 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 14% of SO Play's written reviews are positive against 0% of Express TV's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SO Play ships an update monthly, Express TV every 48 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
