# ArcticDolphin vs Speedometer GPS

The clearest difference is rating: Speedometer GPS at 4.6 against ArcticDolphin's 2.9. Speedometer GPS also leads on ratings volume (8.9K vs 33). ArcticDolphin's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 5) and ads (none vs shown). On price, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speedometer GPS sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. ArcticDolphin asks for nothing beyond the download.

Speedometer GPS holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 2.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speedometer GPS has 8.9K ratings behind it against 33, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 38% of ArcticDolphin's written reviews are positive against 33% of Speedometer GPS's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ArcticDolphin ships an update fortnightly, Speedometer GPS every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
