# StoryKorean vs Kimchi Reader

The clearest difference is monetization model: StoryKorean at free with in-app purchases against Kimchi Reader's subscription. StoryKorean also leads on iOS requirement (13.4 vs 17.6). Kimchi Reader's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.7). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. StoryKorean sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Kimchi Reader sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Kimchi Reader holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 7 and 12 respectively. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

StoryKorean ships an update fortnightly, Kimchi Reader every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
