# MapGenie vs PalMap

MapGenie and PalMap both sit at 4.9 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of MapGenie's written reviews are positive against 62% of PalMap's. PalMap's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 48 months). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and PalMap sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for MapGenie against 4.8 for PalMap. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PalMap has 238 ratings behind it against 21, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 100% of MapGenie's written reviews are positive against 62% of PalMap's.

MapGenie ships an update every 48 months, PalMap every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
