# SMS Proxy vs Virtual Number

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Virtual Number at 82% against SMS Proxy's 20%. Virtual Number also leads on rating (4.5 vs 3.7) and ratings volume (39 vs 6). SMS Proxy's advantage is update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 8 months) and device support (4 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SMS Proxy sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Virtual Number sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Virtual Number holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Virtual Number has 39 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 20% of SMS Proxy's written reviews are positive against 82% of Virtual Number's.

SMS Proxy ships an update every 6 weeks, Virtual Number every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
