# Ahead vs Event Countdown

The clearest difference is monetization model: Ahead at free with in-app purchases against Event Countdown's subscription. Ahead also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 4 months). Event Countdown's advantage is ratings volume (48 vs 2) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.6). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Ahead sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per year and Event Countdown sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Ahead against 4.9 for Event Countdown. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Event Countdown has 48 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Ahead ships an update every 3 weeks, Event Countdown every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
