# Symbols vs KageGuide

The clearest difference is monetization model: Symbols at free with in-app purchases against KageGuide's subscription. Symbols also leads on update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (8 vs 1). KageGuide's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.5). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Symbols sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and KageGuide sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

KageGuide holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Symbols has 8 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Symbols ships an update every 6 weeks, KageGuide every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
