# SoftVPN vs Ocean Private

The clearest difference is rating: Ocean Private at 5.0 against SoftVPN's 3.7. Ocean Private also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription). SoftVPN's advantage is ratings volume (119 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SoftVPN sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Ocean Private sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ocean Private holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SoftVPN has 119 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

SoftVPN ships an update every 3 weeks, Ocean Private every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
