# SoftVPN vs Tom VPN

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Tom VPN at 83% against SoftVPN's 33%. Tom VPN also leads on rating (4.5 vs 3.7) and monetization model (freemium vs subscription). SoftVPN's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.1). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SoftVPN sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Tom VPN sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Tom VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tom VPN has 1.4K ratings behind it against 119, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 33% of SoftVPN's written reviews are positive against 83% of Tom VPN's.

SoftVPN ships an update every 3 weeks, Tom VPN every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
