# SoftVPN vs QR Code Scanner

The clearest difference is review sentiment: QR Code Scanner at 100% against SoftVPN's 33%. QR Code Scanner also leads on rating (5.0 vs 3.7) and monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription). SoftVPN's advantage is ratings volume (119 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SoftVPN sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and QR Code Scanner sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

QR Code Scanner holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SoftVPN has 119 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 33% of SoftVPN's written reviews are positive against 100% of QR Code Scanner's.

SoftVPN ships an update every 3 weeks, QR Code Scanner fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
