# BookWatch vs Booktok

The clearest difference is monetization model: BookWatch at free with in-app purchases against Booktok's subscription. BookWatch also leads on review sentiment (51% vs 16%) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 8 days). Booktok's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 17.0). On price, rating, ratings volume and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BookWatch sells 22 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month and Booktok sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for BookWatch against 4.6 for Booktok. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 14K and 33K respectively. Written reviews are what separate them: 51% of BookWatch's written reviews are positive against 16% of Booktok's.

BookWatch ships an update every 3 days, Booktok every 8 days. Both last shipped on October 31, 2026.
