# Spectrum Academy vs Bites

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Spectrum Academy at none against Bites's 10. Spectrum Academy also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Bites's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (2.2K vs 1). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Bites sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days. Spectrum Academy asks for nothing beyond the download.

Spectrum Academy holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Bites has 2.2K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Spectrum Academy ships an update every 3 months, Bites fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
