Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Brushes for Procreate at free with in-app purchases against Brushes by Artcoast's subscription. Brushes by Artcoast's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 months). On price, rating, ratings volume and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Brushes for Procreate sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and Brushes by Artcoast sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Brushes for Procreate holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 420 and 551 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 66% of Brushes for Procreate's written reviews are positive against 75% of Brushes by Artcoast's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Brushes for Procreate ships an update every 3 months, Brushes by Artcoast weekly. Both last shipped on October 19, 2026.
