# Scriptorium vs Writetastic

The clearest difference is monetization model: Scriptorium at free with in-app purchases against Writetastic's subscription. Writetastic's advantage is update cadence (every 2 days vs monthly). On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scriptorium sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $29.99 per month and Writetastic sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Scriptorium against 5.0 for Writetastic. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 1 and 2 respectively.

Scriptorium ships an update monthly, Writetastic every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
