# myESO vs MapGenie

The clearest difference is ads: myESO at none against MapGenie's shown. myESO also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.6) and update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). MapGenie's advantage is ratings volume (1.5K vs 78) and review sentiment (34% vs 25%). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. myESO sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

myESO holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 1.5K ratings behind it against 78, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 25% of myESO's written reviews are positive against 34% of MapGenie's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

myESO ships an update monthly, MapGenie every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
