# Gears Forever vs Spell Masters

The clearest difference is rating: Spell Masters at 4.7 against Gears Forever's 4.2. Spell Masters also leads on ratings volume (340 vs 18). Gears Forever's advantage is iOS requirement (11.0 vs 14.0). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Gears Forever sells 6 one-off in-app purchases and Spell Masters sells 13 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Spell Masters holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spell Masters has 340 ratings behind it against 18, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Gears Forever's written reviews are positive against 47% of Spell Masters's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Gears Forever ships an update every 9 days, Spell Masters every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
