# Functional Groups vs ShadowLog App

The clearest difference is monetization model: ShadowLog App at free against Functional Groups's free with in-app purchases. ShadowLog App also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 4 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and ratings volume there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Functional Groups sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and ShadowLog App sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Functional Groups against 5.0 for ShadowLog App. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 21 and 11 respectively. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Functional Groups ships an update every 4 months, ShadowLog App every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and September 11, 2026 respectively.
