# Shine vs ideaShell

The clearest difference is rating: ideaShell at 4.7 against Shine's 4.0. ideaShell also leads on ratings volume (599 vs 4). Shine's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 76%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shine sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and ideaShell sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ideaShell holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ideaShell has 599 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Shine's written reviews are positive against 76% of ideaShell's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Shine ships an update every 5 days, ideaShell every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on September 25, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
