# Shanghai Mahjong vs Random Mahjong Pro

The clearest difference is rating: Shanghai Mahjong at 4.3 against Random Mahjong Pro's 3.6. Shanghai Mahjong also leads on ratings volume (247 vs 14) and chart position (#134 vs unranked). Random Mahjong Pro's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months) and review sentiment (86% vs 73%). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Shanghai Mahjong costs $1.99 and Random Mahjong Pro $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Shanghai Mahjong holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Shanghai Mahjong has 247 ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of Shanghai Mahjong's written reviews are positive against 86% of Random Mahjong Pro's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Shanghai Mahjong ships an update every 3 months, Random Mahjong Pro monthly. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
