# ID Lock vs VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: VPN at free with in-app purchases against ID Lock's subscription. VPN also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.6). ID Lock's advantage is review sentiment (73% vs 38%). On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ID Lock sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and VPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ID Lock holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 792 and 1.3K respectively. Written reviews point the same way: 73% of ID Lock's written reviews are positive against 38% of VPN's.
