# Simplenote vs Evernote Scannable

Simplenote and Evernote Scannable both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 86% of Simplenote's written reviews are positive against 33% of Evernote Scannable's. Simplenote also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). Evernote Scannable's advantage is ratings volume (418K vs 4.3K) and chart position (#106 vs unranked). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Simplenote sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month and Evernote Scannable sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Simplenote against 4.9 for Evernote Scannable. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Evernote Scannable has 418K ratings behind it against 4.3K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 86% of Simplenote's written reviews are positive against 33% of Evernote Scannable's.

Simplenote ships an update fortnightly, Evernote Scannable every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 7, 2026 respectively.
