# TextEditor vs Document Editor

TextEditor and Document Editor both sit at 4.3 stars, but that hides the real split: 78% of TextEditor's written reviews are positive against 26% of Document Editor's. TextEditor also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 8) and ratings volume (2.9K vs 297). Document Editor's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 10 months). On price, rating and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Document Editor sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. TextEditor asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.3 for TextEditor against 4.4 for Document Editor. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TextEditor has 2.9K ratings behind it against 297, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 78% of TextEditor's written reviews are positive against 26% of Document Editor's.

TextEditor ships an update every 10 months, Document Editor every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
