# Backgammon vs Backgammon Galaxy

The clearest difference is ads: Backgammon Galaxy at none against Backgammon's shown. Backgammon Galaxy also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 months) and chart position (#108 vs unranked). Backgammon's advantage is review sentiment (65% vs 31%) and ratings volume (15K vs 1.9K). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backgammon sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and Backgammon Galaxy sells 18 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for Backgammon against 4.4 for Backgammon Galaxy. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backgammon has 15K ratings behind it against 1.9K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 65% of Backgammon's written reviews are positive against 31% of Backgammon Galaxy's.

Backgammon ships an update every 5 months, Backgammon Galaxy every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
