# CCEL Devotional Bible vs Luther's Bible Commentary

The clearest difference is review sentiment: CCEL Devotional Bible at 68% against Luther's Bible Commentary's 15%. CCEL Devotional Bible also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 14.0). Luther's Bible Commentary's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 3.3) and ratings volume (178 vs 4). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CCEL Devotional Bible sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and Luther's Bible Commentary sells 6 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Luther's Bible Commentary holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Luther's Bible Commentary has 178 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 68% of CCEL Devotional Bible's written reviews are positive against 15% of Luther's Bible Commentary's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
