# Chess ∙ vs Chess

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Chess ∙ at 208K against Chess's 45. Chess ∙ also leads on rating (4.5 vs 4.2) and monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases). Chess's advantage is review sentiment (67% vs 56%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Chess ∙ holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess ∙ has 208K ratings behind it against 45, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of Chess ∙'s written reviews are positive against 67% of Chess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chess ∙ ships an update every 4 months, Chess every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 7, 2026 respectively.
