# U vs truTV

The clearest difference is ads: U at none against truTV's shown. U also leads on ratings volume (390K vs 14K) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). truTV's advantage is iOS requirement (14.0 vs 16.6). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for U against 4.5 for truTV. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: U has 390K ratings behind it against 14K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 14% of U's written reviews are positive against 15% of truTV's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
