# Guru Maps vs Avenza Maps

Guru Maps and Avenza Maps both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 76% of Guru Maps's written reviews are positive against 52% of Avenza Maps's. Guru Maps also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs every 2 months) and device support (5 vs 2). Avenza Maps's advantage is ratings volume (128K vs 3K) and chart position (#19 vs #185). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Guru Maps sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Avenza Maps sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $32.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Guru Maps against 4.8 for Avenza Maps. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Avenza Maps has 128K ratings behind it against 3K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 76% of Guru Maps's written reviews are positive against 52% of Avenza Maps's.

Guru Maps ships an update every 10 days, Avenza Maps every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
