# Dropbox vs Google Drive

Dropbox and Google Drive both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 65% of Google Drive's written reviews are positive against 48% of Dropbox's. Google Drive also leads on ratings volume (7.8M vs 907K). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Dropbox sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month and Google Drive sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Dropbox against 4.8 for Google Drive. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Google Drive has 7.8M ratings behind it against 907K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 48% of Dropbox's written reviews are positive against 65% of Google Drive's.

Dropbox ships an update every 2 weeks, Google Drive weekly. Both last shipped on October 6, 2026.
