# TypeDefense vs Type

TypeDefense and Type both sit at 2.9 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Type's written reviews are positive against 65% of TypeDefense's. Type also leads on update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 59 months). TypeDefense's advantage is ratings volume (767 vs 2) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 13.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 2.9 for TypeDefense against 3.0 for Type. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TypeDefense has 767 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 65% of TypeDefense's written reviews are positive against 100% of Type's.

TypeDefense ships an update every 59 months, Type every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and September 20, 2026 respectively.
