# Chess.com vs Chess Prime 3D

The clearest difference is update cadence: Chess.com at weekly against Chess Prime 3D's every 3 weeks. Chess.com also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.6) and ratings volume (855K vs 63K). Chess Prime 3D's advantage is review sentiment (81% vs 64%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 17.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess.com sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Chess Prime 3D sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Chess.com holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess.com has 855K ratings behind it against 63K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 64% of Chess.com's written reviews are positive against 81% of Chess Prime 3D's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chess.com ships an update weekly, Chess Prime 3D every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
