# Crunchyroll vs Tachimanga

Crunchyroll and Tachimanga both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 76% of Tachimanga's written reviews are positive against 47% of Crunchyroll's. Tachimanga also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Crunchyroll's advantage is ratings volume (1.5M vs 5.5K) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Crunchyroll sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and Tachimanga sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Crunchyroll against 4.8 for Tachimanga. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Crunchyroll has 1.5M ratings behind it against 5.5K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 47% of Crunchyroll's written reviews are positive against 76% of Tachimanga's.

Crunchyroll ships an update weekly, Tachimanga every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 31, 2026.
