# Scanner Pro vs FineReader Pro

The clearest difference is price: Scanner Pro at Free against FineReader Pro's $59.99. Scanner Pro also leads on ratings volume (337K vs 1.3K) and rating (4.9 vs 4.7). FineReader Pro's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 15) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). On review sentiment, update cadence, ads and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Scanner Pro is free to download; FineReader Pro costs $59.99 up front. Scanner Pro sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. FineReader Pro asks for nothing beyond the download.

Scanner Pro holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scanner Pro has 337K ratings behind it against 1.3K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 78% of Scanner Pro's written reviews are positive against 81% of FineReader Pro's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Scanner Pro ships an update fortnightly, FineReader Pro monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
